Martha Carbajal, a 45-year-old mother of four, moved to Las Vegas to escape the crime in her hometown of Long Beach, California. However, violence found her in east Las Vegas when she was shot earlier this month, resulting in the loss of her eye. Carbajal, still recovering, has been wearing an eye patch and has put a pause on visits from her two youngest children to shield them from her appearance.
The incident, which occurred on October 5th, is still under investigation by the Metropolitan Police Department. Carbajal recounted the events of that evening when she was shot while driving on North Lamb Boulevard. A bullet struck her in the eye, causing her to lose vision in that eye and necessitating emergency surgery.
Carbajal’s daughter has set up a GoFundMe page to assist with her medical expenses, and the campaign has received a generous response from contributors. While she is currently stable and healing with her boyfriend, Carbajal is focused on recovery and eventually getting a prosthetic eye.
In the aftermath of the shooting, Carbajal urged anyone with information to come forward and help identify the perpetrator. She emphasized the need for the community to be aware of the violence in the area and work towards ensuring the safety of all residents.
As Carbajal continues her journey to healing, she remains hopeful that justice will be served, and she will eventually find closure. Through her harrowing experience, she hopes to raise awareness about the importance of community involvement in preventing such acts of violence.
