High School Sports Roundup: Thursday’s Top Scores and Standout Performances
In a thrilling display of athleticism and skill, high school athletes across the city showcased their talents on Thursday, leaving fans on the edge of their seats. From buzzer-beaters to dominant defensive performances, the action on the court and field did not disappoint.
Boys Basketball
Leading the pack was Dameion Curry from Chaparral High School, who put on a clinic with 25 points, 12 rebounds, four assists, and four steals, propelling the Cowboys to an 86-64 victory over Del Sol. EJ Dacuma of Sierra Vista also made a statement, scoring 23 points, with 14 coming in the first quarter, in a 74-40 win over Cheyenne.
AJ Duke of Legacy High School showed off his sharpshooting skills, dropping 26 points and draining 14 three-pointers in an 87-49 triumph over Western. Jakoi Lide of Rancho High School was a force to be reckoned with, leading all scorers with an impressive 42 points in a dominant 78-26 win over Tech.
Girls Basketball
On the girls’ side, Satsuki Bradley of Liberty High School stood out with 13 points in a hard-fought 45-37 victory over Desert Oasis. Sanai Branch from Centennial High School displayed her scoring prowess with 18 points in a 68-16 win against Palo Verde. Kiera Kauhi of Cimarron-Memorial High School filled up the stat sheet with 26 points, six steals, five rebounds, and three assists in a 55-10 blowout over Doral Academy.
Sienna Neilson of Moapa Valley High School came up clutch with 19 points and 10 rebounds in a tight 46-42 win over Basic. Olivia Patai of Green Valley High School helped lead her team to a comeback victory with 10 points in a 33-29 win against Silverado. Ricana Taylor of Del Sol High School dominated the paint with 26 points, 12 rebounds, and seven blocks in a 68-20 win over Mojave.
Flag Football
In flag football action, Asia Johnson of Sunrise Mountain High School stole the show with two rushing touchdowns and an interception on defense in a 14-6 win over Foothill. Samantha Manzo from Palo Verde High School showcased her versatility with four receiving touchdowns and 76 rushing yards in a 39-7 victory against Silverado.
Danielle Maurer of Cadence High School impressed with two rushing touchdowns in a 34-7 win over Faith Lutheran. Danielle Morales from Arbor View High School ran for 157 yards and two touchdowns in a 40-6 victory over Canyon Springs. Sykiya Tatum of Coronado High School led her team to a 56-0 win over Durango with eight tackles, two sacks, and a pick-6.
Amaya Wusstig of Sierra Vista High School displayed her dual-threat abilities with 101 rushing yards, two rushing touchdowns, and 121 passing yards with three scores in a 35-6 win over Del Sol.
