San Manuel Gaming & Palms Casino Resort Award $1.5M Grants to 45 Las Vegas Non-profits

San Manuel Gaming and Hospitality Authority (SMGHA) and Palms Casino Resort have once again demonstrated their commitment to supporting the Las Vegas community by awarding $1.5 million in grants to 45 local charities in Southern Nevada. This marks the third consecutive year that these grants have been distributed to organizations making a positive impact in the area.

The grants range from $5,000 to $200,000 and have been awarded to a diverse group of non-profits including Jobs for Nevada’s Graduates, Inc., Kenny Guinn Center For Policy Priorities, Nevada Public Radio, Nevada Legal Services, Food Bank of Northern Nevada, Edward Kline Memorial Homeless Veterans Fund Inc., Foster Kinship, and Nevada Blind Children’s Foundation. These grants will support a variety of programs and services aimed at empowering underserved populations and building a better future for the community.

The SMGHA’s commitment to social change is rooted in ‘The Spirit of Yawa,’ which emphasizes acting on one’s beliefs to make a difference. Through these grants, the SMGHA aims to preserve cultural traditions, empower lives, strengthen communities, and promote education in the Las Vegas area.

For example, Nevada Public Radio will use the grant to continue their Indigenous Affairs Reporting, connecting the community to the stories and experiences of Nevada’s 28 federally registered tribes. The Food Bank of Northern Nevada will strengthen their Tribal Outreach program, ensuring that individuals living in tribal communities have access to fresh, nutritious foods.

Other organizations, such as Nevada Legal Services and Kline Veterans Fund, will use the grants to provide legal services and support programs that promote resiliency and wellness within communities. The Southern Nevada Joint Management Culinary & Training Fund received the largest grant to support their Workforce Development program, providing modern industry equipment and training for aspiring culinarians.

These grants reflect the philanthropic values of the San Manuel Band of Mission Indians, who have been actively supporting educational institutions and charities in Las Vegas since January 2020. The Tribe has donated $12 million to various causes, including educational programs at UNLV.

The 2024 grant recipients cover a wide range of non-profits, from organizations supporting Indigenous communities to those promoting education, wellness, and advocacy. These grants are a testament to the SMGHA’s ongoing commitment to making a positive impact in the Las Vegas community and supporting those in need.

In conclusion, the grants awarded by San Manuel Gaming & Palms Casino Resort will undoubtedly make a significant difference in the lives of many individuals and families in Southern Nevada. The continued support for local charities and non-profits showcases the dedication of these organizations to creating a brighter and more prosperous future for the community.
