The game took place on Tuesday as part of the opening round of the Class 5A Southern Region softball tournament.

Katelynn Quidato was a force to be reckoned with on the pitcher’s mound for the Mustangs, as she didn’t allow a single run and struck out five batters. The victory improved Shadow Ridge’s record to 13-7, setting them up for a winners’ bracket matchup against Centennial at 4 p.m. on Wednesday. In another softball matchup, Palo Verde dominated Silverado with a resounding 17-0 win. The Panthers (19-0) got off to a blazing start, scoring 15 runs in the first inning alone. Their next challenge will be against Bishop Gorman in the winners’ bracket on Wednesday, while Silverado (4-16) will look to keep their season alive against Coronado in an elimination game.

Switching gears to baseball, Faith Lutheran came out on top with a narrow 1-0 victory over Las Vegas. Dylan Swanson played a crucial role in the win, drawing a bases-loaded walk in the top of the ninth inning to bring in the winning run. Faith Lutheran (record) is now set to face Palo Verde in the winners’ bracket, while Las Vegas will try to bounce back against Foothill in an elimination game.

Centennial also had a strong showing on the baseball diamond, defeating Bishop Gorman 5-0 behind a stellar performance from reliever Jake Turner. Turner shut down the Gaels’ offense, not allowing a single run or hit in 6⅓ innings of work. Centennial (20-12) will now prepare to take on Basic in the winners’ bracket, while Bishop Gorman (18-13) will face Arbor View in an elimination game.

On the boys volleyball court, Coronado cruised to a 3-0 victory over Green Valley, with Dane Galvin leading the charge with 14 kills. The Cougars (36-2) will now gear up to face Arbor View in the semifinals on Thursday. Meanwhile, Shadow Ridge secured a 3-0 win over Foothill, setting up a showdown with Palo Verde in the next round.

In the Class 3A state quarterfinals, Boulder City emerged victorious with a 3-1 win over Losee. David Zwhalen had a standout performance for the Eagles, recording 14 kills and 12 digs. Boulder City (29-8) will now shift their focus to their upcoming matchup against Valley in the semifinals.
