Subaru of Las Vegas recently joined forces with AdoptAClassroom.org to show their support for education by surprising teachers and students at Durango High School with a generous donation of $15,000 and 25 school supply kits. The heartwarming gesture took place during a home football game, marking the beginning of the back-to-school season.
The donation is part of the Subaru Loves Learning program, which is spearheaded by Subaru of America, Inc. This initiative aims to provide funding for teachers at high-needs schools nationwide so they can purchase essential school supplies and resources to help their students thrive. High-need schools are those with a Title I Schoolwide Program and/or where 40 percent or more of the student population qualifies for the Free or Reduced-Price Lunch Program.
Thanks to the donation from Subaru of Las Vegas, more than 600 students will benefit from the $500 worth of funding allocated to each teacher to buy supplies for the upcoming school year on the AdoptAClassroom.org Marketplace.
Burton Hughes, the executive/general manager of Subaru of Las Vegas, expressed his excitement about supporting local teachers and students through the Subaru Loves Learning initiative. He emphasized that providing crucial school supplies is just one of the ways they give back to the community, and they are dedicated to making a positive and lasting impact year-round through various initiatives that cater to the needs of their neighbors.
Statistics from AdoptAClassroom.org reveal that a significant 92 percent of teachers nationwide have students from families who cannot afford any school supplies. As a result, teachers end up spending an average of $860 annually out of their own pockets to stock their classrooms.
Stacie Nelson, the principal at Durango High School, conveyed her gratitude for the generous donation from Subaru of Las Vegas as part of the Subaru Loves Learning initiative. She emphasized that these essential supplies will greatly contribute to the students’ success throughout the academic year. The entire school community, including teachers and staff, extended their heartfelt thanks for the much-needed support.
This act of kindness is just one example of Subaru of Las Vegas’s ongoing commitment to the community. They have formed partnerships with various organizations, such as the Nevada SPCA and Clark County School District, as well as Get Outdoors Nevada, to make a positive difference year-round.
Subaru, being the largest corporate partner of AdoptAClassroom.org, along with its retailers, has impacted over 750,000 students nationwide through the Subaru Loves Learning initiative. This year, Subaru of Las Vegas is one of the 630 participating retailers collaborating with the organization to adopt classrooms in high-needs schools.
