Las Vegas Seeks Community Input for Historic Westside Revitalization

The city of Las Vegas is embarking on an exciting journey to revitalize the Historic Westside, and they are inviting the community to participate in shaping its future. In 2023, the city received a grant from the Commission for the Las Vegas Centennial to develop a Historic Westside Design Guidebook that will serve as a blueprint for revitalization efforts in the area.

To kick off this initiative, an informational session will be held on Wednesday, April 24th, from 6-7 p.m. at the Historic Westside School located at 330 W. Washington Ave. This session is open to all members of the community who are interested in contributing their ideas and feedback. It will be the first of many input sessions scheduled to take place throughout 2024, offering multiple opportunities for community engagement and collaboration.

Exciting Developments in Historic Westside

One of the most significant recent developments in the Historic Westside is the groundbreaking of a new five-story, 104-unit multifamily project known as shareDowntown. This project, developed by Cherry Development, is set to open its doors in 2026 and will be situated on six currently vacant parcels of land in the neighborhood.

shareDowntown will feature a total of 13,000 sq. ft. of retail space, with the main apartment building offering over 8,400 sq. ft. of ground floor retail space. The city of Las Vegas plans to lease much of this space for a business incubator program, providing support to local entrepreneurs and startups. Additionally, Cherry Development will construct a 6,200 sq. ft. food hall adjacent to the apartment building, which will be utilized by the city to foster new food and beverage businesses.

This groundbreaking project marks the first large-scale, ground-up new construction endeavor in the Historic Westside in nearly seven decades, signaling a new era of growth and development for the community.

Expanding Opportunities and Services

In line with the revitalization efforts in the Historic Westside, the city of Las Vegas has also broken ground on a new West Las Vegas Library at 1861 N. Martin Luther King Blvd. This two-story, approximately 41,000 square foot facility will double the current size of the library, offering expanded services and resources to residents.

The new West Las Vegas Library is expected to open its doors in the fall of 2025, providing a modern and welcoming space for community members to access information, educational materials, and cultural programs. This investment in public infrastructure reflects the city’s commitment to enhancing the quality of life for residents in the Historic Westside and promoting lifelong learning and literacy.

As the Historic Westside continues to undergo transformation and revitalization, these new developments are poised to create a vibrant and dynamic community hub that celebrates its rich history and embraces a vision for the future. By engaging with stakeholders and residents through input sessions and collaborative initiatives, the city of Las Vegas is paving the way for a more inclusive and sustainable future for the Historic Westside.
